World Tai Chi and Qigong Day

May 15, 2017

All Whitefish Community Center members are cordially invited to attend a free beginner’s class in the art of Tai Chi and/or Qigong. Well-known instructors David Calabretta and Karen Nesbitt will be giving demonstrations and instructions for all ages and abilities.

You are mistaken if you believe mind-body exercise is full of kicks, punches, grunts and shouts. Tai Chi and Qigong are so much more! They are a simple, gentle, and soft integration of body, breath and mind. One should take full responsibility for one’s health, and it’s important to keep active. A “healthy body and happy mind” is the key to longevity.

Tai Chi often leads to more vigor and energy, greater flexibility, balance and mobility, and an improved sense of well-being. This gentle form of restorative exercise helps people of all ages, and the social support opens doors of many kinds. Mind-body exercise may also improve your anxiety, mood and sleep pattern. It has the potential to improve quality of life, pain, and emotional stability. Also, this low-impact exercise is enjoyable and safe.

Tai Chi is a place where it’s OK to have a physical limitation, it’s OK to make a mistake, and it’s OK to crack a joke. I know because I’ve been a student of David’s for close to a year and he makes it f.u.n. You will learn slow, continuous, relaxed and repetitive movements which will result in dynamic stretching. You will learn to focus on self-awareness, relaxation, proper alignment and breathing. WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR?

Please consider coming to The Whitefish Community Center on Saturday, April 29, to play Tai Chi and Qigong with David and Karen. There will be music, laughter, and wonderful fellowship.

DAVID CALABRETTA began learning T'ai Chi in 2003. David is presently teaching at the Wave in Whitefish, The Springs, Whitefish Community Center, Buffalo Hill Terrace, Flathead Health and Fitness, and Immanuel Lutheran Communities. See his video on YouTube: “Tai Chi at The Wave with David Calabretta”

KAREN NESBITT is the cofounder and director of The International Qigong Foundation, Inc. Karen has taught credit courses in both qigong and taijiquan for the University of Hawaii and noncredit courses for the Oshler Lifelong Learning Program. She continues to instruct qigong and taijiquan students privately and in classes around the world as well as facilitate study tours to China.
